Face of the day

John James, 24, MA English (distance education)

Currently pursuing MA English as a part of distance learning program, John James is a terrific learner. Actually, John was not visually impaired by birth; he lost his eyesight in an accident. He doesn't bothers about what happened in the past. He has taken life as a challenge and is desperate to learn and develop himself.
John talks about his experience, “I lost my vision at the age of 10. It’s been 14 long years since I saw the sunshine, the greenery of the nature, the beauty of the people and my very own face. All what I have is the world in my imagination. I feel and mesmerize the memories which now have turned to be my eyes. For instance, I do feel that I shall not become a burden on others, but my friends and other generous people are very humble and never make me feel different.”
John daily gets into the morning bus at 8:30 from Pondy to reach the university. He definitely faces huge problems within the public transportation but cherishes the campus environment. He feels very comfortable and homely within the university premise. All the academic buildings in the university are accessible to him and to all other people like him. On his friends and helping volunteers John says, “I can’t see who is helping me. But I do feel that they are good hearted people. They care for me and for all other people out there like me. They are my eyes and my ear. Everything that comes to me comes through them.”
John is a nice and fun loving person. He smiles and laughs at every little joke. He never lets his chins to go down. He is the symbol of strength to all other visually impaired people of the campus. The positive approach which he has taken towards being differently abled is well appreciable.

As a friend and a responsible being, it is the duty of all of us to share hands and support him.
